Haney won the men’s javelin F37/38 gold at the Asian Para Games with a world-record throw of 60.49 metres, and Sandeep took the men’s 400m T64 gold in a world-record 52.28 seconds, both on 23 October, the fifth day of competition in Japan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated both athletes, according to separate PIB releases, and match reports from PTI-based and sports outlets confirm the marks.
Two World Marks on Day 5
Haney broke the world record on his fifth throw and improved it again with his final attempt, reports said. He had earlier won a bronze in the discus. Sandeep’s 52.28 seconds beat Ajay Kumar, who took bronze in 53.61 seconds, a new Asian Para Games record. Sandeep also has a bronze from the men’s 100m T44, run in 11.67 seconds.
India’s Tally Passes Hangzhou
After Day 5, India had 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals, a total of 114, which puts it fourth behind China (427), Japan (185) and Uzbekistan (145), according to Khel Now. India won 26 medals on the day alone, nine of them gold. The total is six more than India’s haul at Hangzhou, a Games record for the country.

Earlier golds this week came from Deepthi Jeevanji in the 400m T20 and Mona Agarwal in shooting. IPB also covered India’s 168-athlete squad when the Games opened.
Earlier Records Not Stated
The PIB releases carry only the Prime Minister’s congratulations. The match reports reviewed do not give the world marks that Haney and Sandeep replaced, and they do not give the athletes’ home states. The medal table will keep changing while the Games continue.
