Runners will race 100 miles from Mana Pass, at about 5,600 metres, to Auli in the first week of May 2027, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Sunday, 25 October, at Gunji in Pithoragarh district. The state-run “100 Miles Himalayan Endurance Ultra Run” will pass through Badrinath and Joshimath and is open to runners from India and abroad, PTI reported. The Northern Gazette reported that Dhami said it would be held every year.

Announced at the Adi Kailash Parikrama Run

Dhami spoke at the Adi Kailash Parikrama Run 2.0, where he gave awards to winners of the 70-km and 42-km races and thanked the Army, ITBP and SSB for their support. More than 700 runners took part in the first edition in 2025. He said Adi Kailash pilgrims had risen from 36,500 in 2025 to 67,000 so far this year, and linked the races to the Centre’s Vibrant Villages Programme, saying border settlements should be “first villages” rather than “last villages”.

The state says such events will create local jobs and slow migration from border villages. The announcement gives no budget, entry fee, qualifying standard or medical and rescue arrangements for a route that starts above 5,000 metres; those details have not been published. The state’s earlier push on adventure jobs is in our paragliding pilots report; more in Quick Reads.
