Amul has raised the prices of its ghee and butter packs, with a 1 kg ghee carton going from Rs 630 to Rs 680, according to reports published on 4 November by Mint, the Economic Times, The Times of India and India TV. The increase applies to several pack sizes and comes days before Diwali on 8 November, when demand for ghee and sweets peaks. Neither Amul nor its marketer, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), had issued a statement at the time of writing, so the figures below rest on the outlets’ reports.

Rs 3 to Rs 50 More Per Pack

India TV listed the old and new prices. The 1 kg ghee carton rose Rs 50 to Rs 680. The 500 g pure ghee pouch went from Rs 325 to Rs 345. A 500 g pack of butter is now Rs 325 instead of Rs 310, and the 100 g butter pack costs Rs 66, up from Rs 63. India TV also listed current online prices of Rs 740 a litre for cow milk ghee, Rs 710 for Sagar ghee, Rs 700 for pure ghee and Rs 720 for buffalo milk ghee. Retail prices can differ slightly by city and shop, so check the pack before buying.

GST Cut Largely Cancelled Out

In September 2025, dairy products such as ghee and butter became cheaper after the GST cut, and Amul passed on the relief by lowering prices on more than 700 packs. Reports now say the latest increase takes back much of that saving. The outlets give two reasons: festive demand, and a jump in demand for branded ghee in Gujarat and Rajasthan after crackdowns on adulterated products in those states. Some markets have also reported shortages of Amul cow ghee. None of these reasons has been confirmed by the company.

No Word Yet on Other Dairy Brands

It is not yet clear whether other dairy brands will follow with similar increases, or whether Amul will revise prices again after the festival rush. Amul has not announced a date for any review. IPB News will update this report if the company or GCMMF issues a statement.
