Aswaraopeta Logs 34 cm Rain; Andhra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu Alert Continues
Coastal Andhra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu stay under IMD's heavy-rain warning for several more days, with gusty winds along the Andhra coast.

Aswaraopeta in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district recorded 34 cm of rain in the 24 hours ending 8:30 AM on 5 November, the highest total in India that morning, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office has kept its heavy-rain warning for coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in place for Friday, 6 November, and beyond, as a weakened system over east Telangana and the Andhra coast continues to bring showers.

IMD’s all-India bulletin listed extremely heavy rain at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. After Aswaraopeta, Polavaram in Eluru district, Andhra Pradesh, logged 22 cm, Mulakalapalle in Bhadradri Kothagudem 13 cm and Dowleshwaram in East Godavari 10 cm. Koyyalagudem, Kunavaram and Velairpad recorded 9 cm each. Heavy rain also fell at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

A Fading Cyclone Remnant
The system behind the rain is the remnant of Cyclone Murasu, which weakened to a low-pressure area over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh on 5 November. IMD also noted a trough in the easterlies running from south Kerala to the Karnataka coast. Earlier IPB reports covered the weakening of the Murasu remnant and the Telangana forecast, with a dry spell from 8 November. Other IMD alerts are on the IMD tag page.
IMD’s next all-India bulletin, due on Saturday, will show whether the Andhra and Tamil Nadu alerts hold beyond 8 November.
