Rain from Cyclone Arnab will reach south Chhattisgarh on Tuesday, 27 October, and spread to every district of the state on 28 and 29 October, with extremely heavy rain possible at one or two places, the Meteorological Department’s Raipur centre has forecast. The storm, forming over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday and push moisture north-west over Bastar and the plains, bringing thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 50–60 kmph in places.

Sukma and Dantewada First in Line

Sukma and Dantewada, which border Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, are expected to get rain first, on 27 October, Navbharat reported, with an orange alert for the state on 28 and 29 October. In Gariaband, Collector Ranbir Sharma has told all departments to stay on alert, and village kotwars will go house to house asking farmers to protect harvested crops and livestock owners to keep animals sheltered.

People have been asked to keep away from open fields and not to shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
