The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rain at a few places in Odisha on Wednesday, 28 October, with extremely heavy rain at isolated places, after Cyclone Arnab began crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast near Yanam in the early hours. South Chhattisgarh faces the same warning for the day, according to IMD’s 26 October bulletin as reported by Business Today and The Sunday Guardian.

What IMD Expects Day by Day

For Odisha, IMD’s bulletin lists heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on 29 October after the heaviest spell on 28 October. In south Chhattisgarh, light to moderate rain at most places is forecast for 28 October, heavy to very heavy at a few places and extremely heavy at isolated places. For north Chhattisgarh, the bulletin’s wording for 29 October is unclear in the reports, so IPB is not citing a category for it.

IMD has also forecast heavy rain over Telangana on 28 October and over Jharkhand from 28 to 30 October. Fishermen and shipping operators were told to avoid the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea through 28 October.

Southern Odisha Already on Alert

Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput were named for heavy to very heavy showers on 27 October. Odisha shut schools and tourist spots in six districts earlier this week, and Chhattisgarh’s rain alert for 28 and 29 October was reported on 26 October. Live updates on the storm are on the Cyclone Arnab live page.

Check Latest IMD Bulletin Through the Day

These figures come from the 26 October bulletin; IMD updates its warnings through the day as Arnab moves inland, so district-level alerts can change. Official casualty or damage figures for Odisha and Chhattisgarh have not been reported yet.
