Eight Uttar Pradesh districts, among them Prayagraj, Rae Bareli and Amethi, are under an IMD orange alert for heavy rain and winds of 40-50 km/h on 29 October, as the weather system linked to Cyclone Arnab spreads inland. The state government is on alert, and the Relief Commissioner’s Office has issued precautionary guidelines for the public and farmers, according to reports published on 26 October.
Orange Alert for Prayagraj, Rae Bareli and Amethi
The 29 October orange alert covers Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Amethi and Sultanpur. A day earlier, on 28 October, IMD has a yellow alert with winds of 30-40 km/h for Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Ghazipur and Ballia. Cyclone Arnab itself is forecast to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts on the forenoon of 28 October, with sustained winds of 115-125 km/h.
Keep Harvested Produce and Livestock Under Cover
The Relief Commissioner’s guidelines ask farmers to protect crops and harvested produce and to move livestock to safe places. Residents are told to shelter in sturdy buildings during storms, stay away from trees, electricity poles and weak structures, and avoid open fields, farmland and water bodies during lightning. Updates are available through official bulletins and the Sachet app.
