The fifth Kashi Tamil Sangamam will run from 28 November to 12 December 2026, and people from Tamil Nadu who want to go can register on the IIT Madras portal, kashitamil.iitm.ac.in, until 13 November, the Ministry of Education said. Education Minister Pralhad Joshi opened the portal on 22 October. This year’s theme is “Thirukkural Payilvom”, or “Let us learn the Thirukkural”.

Seven Groups, Eight Days, Three Cities

About 1,400 participants will travel in seven groups of roughly 200 each. Applications are open in seven categories: students, teachers, writers and media professionals, agriculture and allied sectors, professionals and artisans, women, and spiritual leaders. Each trip lasts eight days, four of them spent travelling and four in Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya. Separately, students in 1,000 higher education institutions will take part in a Thirukkural study programme, and Thirukkural experts from Tamil Nadu will hold sessions in Varanasi schools and colleges. The announcement does not say what the programme will cost or how participants will be picked from the applications. The event is run with IIT Madras, Banaras Hindu University, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil and the Uttar Pradesh government. The first edition was held in 2022.
