Cyclone Murasu damaged standing crops across 15 districts and 132 mandals of Andhra Pradesh, according to a preliminary estimate in a state government press release issued on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. The release puts the loss at 30,661 acres, with paddy, cotton and maize hit hardest. The cyclone crossed the coast at 5:30 am on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said, and NDRF Deputy Inspector General Mohsen Shahedi told reporters in Amaravati that no casualties had been recorded in the state so far.

Farmers in Krishna, Bapatla and Nandyala Take the Hit

Krishna, Bapatla and Nandyala districts reported the heaviest crop damage, the release said. Paddy, cotton and maize growers in these districts face losses just as harvest approaches. Some reports, including the PTI copy carried by Business Standard, headline the figure as “over 30,000 hectares”, while the body of the state release gives acres; IPB has used the unit in the release text.

About 1.75 lakh people in coastal Andhra Pradesh were affected, and around 10,000 were housed in 171 relief camps, according to the PTI report. The state said it had distributed 14,810 food packets, arranged 613 generators and sent 725 medical teams to 13 districts, with 362 ambulances on standby.

Fourteen NDRF Teams Deployed in Andhra

Shahedi said 14 NDRF teams are working in coastal Andhra Pradesh, part of 38 teams deployed across five states. The state has also put 11 NDRF and 13 State Disaster Response Force teams on the ground, and 185 Fire Department teams are clearing uprooted trees and standing water. Before landfall, 10,805 people were moved to cyclone shelters, along with 3,066 pregnant women and 1,008 nursing mothers who were shifted to hospitals.

IPB reported the landfall earlier in its Cyclone Murasu coverage, and its weather desk is tracking the rain outlook.

Crop Survey Figures Will Change

The 30,661-acre number is preliminary. The release does not say when field enumeration will finish or what compensation the state plans for affected farmers. IMD expects the system to weaken into a cyclonic storm and then a deep depression by late Tuesday night, so rain-related damage reports from inland districts may still come in.
