Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh are on the IMD list for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Thursday 29 October, as the weakened remnant of Cyclone Arnab moves north across central India, according to the forecast reported by India.com. Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra have been told to expect thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, while Vidarbha and west Madhya Pradesh can see winds of 30-40 kmph.

South Chhattisgarh Has Had Two Rainy Days

Climate Fact Checks, citing the IMD bulletin, said southern Chhattisgarh was forecast heavy to very heavy rain on both 28 and 29 October. Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are likely to get rain as the system moves north, the same report said. ThePrint quoted NDRF officials on Wednesday as saying the storm could affect Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Gusty Storms on the West Coast

On the western side, IMD’s list for Thursday covers Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra with thunderstorms and 40-50 kmph gusts. Mumbai’s recent warm spell is covered in our earlier Mumbai weather report. This desk found no IMD red or orange alert for Gujarat, Goa or Maharashtra for 29 October.

The reports reviewed do not give rainfall in millimetres or school closure orders for Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh for this date.

System Weakens as It Heads North

IMD expects the Arnab system to keep weakening as it moves north, with rain shifting to eastern Uttar Pradesh and the north Indian plains, where a separate western disturbance is bringing hail. Follow the daily outlooks on our Weather Updates page.
