Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee said on Saturday, 7 November, that “BJP goons” attacked his residence in Kolkata at about 2 AM, “right under the watch of the Kolkata police”. Banerjee, the party’s national general secretary, made the allegation in a post on X and tagged Kolkata Police and the Union Home Ministry. West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh rejected the claim as an attempt to mislead people.
A Demand for an Inquiry Into Who Watched the House
Banerjee also alleged that unidentified people kept his office and home under watch for two days before the attack. According to his post, they told him they were police when he confronted them. He asked why state police would watch an elected MP’s house, who authorised it, and urged the Lok Sabha Speaker, Kolkata Police, the Home Ministry and West Bengal Police to investigate.
He also said the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court had been “mute spectators”. In the same post he claimed this was “the seventh attempt on my life in the last six months”, without giving details of the earlier incidents.

What the Bengal Government Side Has Said
Ghosh, quoted in the Tribune’s ANI report, mocked the claim and asked who would have the time to kill Banerjee. Neither report carries a response from Kolkata Police or the Home Ministry, and the details of the alleged attack have not been independently confirmed. Banerjee said he would upload videos.
A Fresh Round in the Trinamool–BJP Fight
The allegation adds to a tense run for Trinamool in Bengal, where Ghosh now serves as a minister in a BJP-led government. IPB News has reported on the party’s other fights in recent days, including the Supreme Court’s referral of disqualification pleas against 10 rebel MLAs to the Calcutta High Court. More Trinamool Congress coverage is on the party’s tag page.
No Police Statement Yet
Whether Kolkata Police have registered a complaint or begun any inquiry is not known from the reports available. Banerjee’s request to the Lok Sabha Speaker is also pending, and no date has been given for the videos he said he would release.
