India and Canada held their first Defence Dialogue virtually on 3 November, the Ministry of Defence said in a release on Wednesday, with defence industrial cooperation, military-technical cooperation and defence research and development named as the three priority areas. Amit Telang, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) in the Ministry of Defence, led the Indian side, and Scott Millar, Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy) in Canada’s Department of National Defence, led the Canadian side.

Three Tracks, No Deals Announced

The two sides exchanged views on their defence policies and strategic outlooks, discussed specific deliverables and compared notes on regional and global issues. The release, as reported by India Strategic, announced no contracts, exercises or dates. Both sides agreed to stay in touch on proposals for closer cooperation.

Follow-Up to the March Commitment

The talks follow the joint statement issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on 2 March 2026, in which the two leaders had said they would set up a defence dialogue, The Tribune reported at the time. The sides reaffirmed that leadership-level commitment on 3 November. No date has been given for the next round.
