Punjab AAP MLAs Quit: Samana, Sanour Legislators Resign From Party

Two Aam Aadmi Party MLAs from Punjab’s Patiala district, Chetan Singh Jouramajra of Samana and Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra of Sanour, resigned from the party’s primary membership on Sunday, 1 November, a day after AAP released its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 Assembly elections, PTI reported. Neither of their seats was in the list.
Two Seats Left Without Candidates
Pathanmajra sent his resignation letter to AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, PTI said. Jouramajra, a former minister, announced his decision in a social media post. Neither report says which party, if any, they plan to join.
AAP has not announced candidates for Samana or Sanour. In September the party made former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra the in-charge of Samana, which is widely seen as a sign he could be fielded there, but there has been no official announcement.

A First List With Gaps
The 40 names released on Saturday are the first batch for the 2027 elections. The two resignations come from legislators who were left out, and they show how quickly the ticket decisions are affecting sitting members. Pathanmajra had earlier questioned the functioning of his own government.
AAP has not issued a statement on the resignations in the PTI report.
Next Lists and Possible Defections
More candidate lists are expected as the election nears. Whether the two MLAs stay as independents or move to another party is not yet known. Their resignations from the party do not, by themselves, answer whether they will remain in the Assembly or what the Speaker will do about their status.
