Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 8 November 2026, greeted Bharat Ratna L.K. Advani, the former Deputy Prime Minister, as he entered his 100th year, according to a PIB release posted at 9:07 AM. Advani was born on 8 November 1927 in Sindh and turned 99 today. Modi published a written article on Advani’s life and shared it on X in English and Hindi.
An Article Instead of a Tweet
“Respected L.K. Advani Ji enters his hundredth year. On this special occasion, my greetings to him,” Modi wrote on X, pointing readers to the article. It traces Advani’s life from leaving Sindh at Partition and rebuilding it from nothing, to his years strengthening the Jana Sangh and building the BJP.
Emergency, Home Ministry and the Rath Yatra
Modi wrote that Advani stood up for democracy during the Emergency, which Advani later described in his book A Prisoner’s Scrap-Book. The article also covers his time as Information and Broadcasting Minister after 1977, as Home Minister and as Deputy Prime Minister. Modi called the Somnath to Ayodhya Rath Yatra a defining moment and linked it to the later construction of the Ram Temple. That assessment is the Prime Minister’s own. Advani’s role in the movement remains a subject of political debate.
