The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated very heavy rain over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on 2 and 3 November. A low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea is “very likely” to become a depression around 31 October, IMD said in its bulletin of 30 October, and then move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the next two days. The system formed after Cyclone Arnab weakened inland. IMD has not named a landfall point, and the strength and track of the depression are still open.
Winds, Waterlogging and Boats at Risk
For coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on 2 and 3 November, IMD lists possible tree and crop damage, minor damage to kutcha houses, localised waterlogging, disruption on roads and railways, and damage to small boats. Thunderstorms with winds of 40-50 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h, are forecast over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on both days. Strong surface winds are expected along the coast from 30 October to 3 November.
Fishermen have been told to stay out of the Andaman Sea and parts of the southeast and east-central Bay of Bengal until 1 November. From 1 to 4 November the warning covers the sea along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast. Outlook reported that no port warning or storm-surge advisory had been issued for the Andhra coast so far.

CareerIndia reported that some Andhra districts had shut schools earlier in the week, but no official closure for 31 October was confirmed; district collectors announce any closure.
IMD’s bulletins through the day will confirm whether the depression has formed and give its position. More forecasts are on the Weather Updates page.
