Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday, 3 November, that the state’s eviction drives will continue, after a foreign media report on demolitions in Dhubri district said hundreds of homes had been razed and about 4,000 people displaced. Sarma posted on X: “More to come. We will not stop till every inch of our land is reclaimed.” The post was reported by ANI and other outlets on 4 November.
Dhubri Figures Come From a Foreign Report
The figures of hundreds of homes and about 4,000 displaced people come from the foreign outlet’s report, not from the Assam government. The reports IPB reviewed do not carry an official count of structures demolished or families affected in this round, and the state has not released one in the material seen so far. The outlet reported that local sources described the residents as living on the land illegally.
Anyone affected by a notice or demolition would need to look to the Dhubri district administration for the official numbers and for any rehabilitation or appeal process.
Earlier Drives and the Government’s Claim
This is not the first drive in the district. In July 2025, Sarma told reporters that about 25,000 acres of encroached land had been cleared in four years and that nearly 10 lakh acres remained under illegal occupation, according to NorthEast Now. He said at the time that people holding valid land documents would not be touched and that drives followed the law. Those figures are the Chief Minister’s own and are about a year old.
Evictions in Dhubri and Goalpara districts have drawn protests and opposition criticism in earlier rounds, as reported by The Assam Tribune.
No Date Announced for the Next Drive
Sarma’s post did not name the next location or a date. Until the state announces one, it is unclear which district comes next. IPB will update this report when the Assam government or Dhubri district officials release figures. Related coverage: INDIA bloc mock Parliament on the CEC, and the Daily Updates page.
