Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday, 30 October, a 2 percentage point increase in dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees, effective from January 2026. He made the announcement in a post on X, according to reports by ANI and PTI. Pensioners get a matching 2-point rise in dearness relief, counted from July 2026.

Cash in November, Arrears in Three Instalments

The higher DA will be paid in cash with the October salary, which employees receive in November. The arrears for the nine months from January to September will be paid in three equal monthly instalments, the reports said.

Daily Jagran listed teachers, staff of aided institutions, private college and polytechnic employees, contingent workers and local body staff among those covered.

Pensioners Count From July, Not January

For pensioners, the dearness relief rise takes effect from July 2026 and will show in the November pension, according to the reports. Employees therefore get a longer arrears period than retired staff.

The announcement came ahead of Diwali, and the reports described it as a festival gift for state staff.

Rate and Cost Not Yet Stated

None of the reports IPB checked gave Madhya Pradesh’s total DA rate after the hike, the number of employees and pensioners who benefit, or the extra cost to the state. IPB could not read the Chief Minister’s original post, so those details may come in a government order.

For comparison, the Union Cabinet earlier raised central DA to 63 percent from 1 July; see IPB’s report on the central DA decision. Another state raised DA earlier this year: Himachal Pradesh’s 5% instalment. More stories are in Daily Updates.
