A big turn over
The new Coronavirus that causes Covid19 could be Endemic like HIV as per the WHO (World Health Organization). This virus has emerged in China at the very beginning. Today it has globally infected 4.35M cases and still counting also the recovery cases are not even at the ratio of the confirmed cases that is 1.55M also the good thing is the death cases are very less as compared to the confirmed cases worldwide. Many countries were unplanned with the virus and its disastrous outlook coming their way. The rest of the world started preparing themselves for the virus almost after two months of China preparing themselves for the virus lately.
The result and unplanned lockdown immediately were proved to be anxious for the people of our country. The main concern raised countrywide and still in headlines was the anxiousness of the migrants. Daily it gives a piece of breaking news regarding the migrants. Many cases have already occurred in the country which deliberately speaks of the poor migrants. It is totally an unplanned lockdown because, as the government wanted to work the lockdown across the country but it proves to be totally opposite. People were horrified when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on National Television at 8 pm in March that India is going under lockdown. It was all chaos for 1.3 billion people to find their way home amid lockdown. Every person’s situation is not the same after all. Soon after the announcement, he declared no one can step out of their home for three weeks which was scheduled as our first lockdown.
Panic under the situation made people rush for the groceries and the daily need materials without obeying the social distancing. The adversely affected part was for the daily wage laborers who were miles away from their hometown working and earning on daily wages. What about them? Had anybody who thought of this situation that cannot stand and hold the situation differently but resulting in brutal effect? Over time headlines came up with the police taking actions against the defaulters, breaking the rules of lockdown. In the meantime migrants from all big cities were gathered at bus stops and asking for help so that, they can reach their home. But due to the lockdown, no public vehicles were on the routes but rather locked up.
Social media in this pandemic played a very crucial role in either manner. Videos and photos surfaced all over dictated that some police officials were seen attacking the street vendors also tumbling the vegetable pushcarts. Under the urban governance, the situation is different and can only be scheduled with all plans active on the head such as waste management, food supplement, transportation facilities, and many such things which should have taken under the mark. Sooner the headlines covered up surfacing the unwanted deaths of migrants now why is this so? Let me explain if the government would have planned and arranged the food and shelter for the migrants at the same places from where they were trying to move to their respective home these deaths could have been avoided.
In this situation when migrants were unable to find any help from their own government they started walking to their home amid lockdown even if the path was miles away. In the last two weeks, the breaking headlines were only related to the deaths of the migrants. The situation at this time was so severe that the people had died due to the lockdown other than the virus. Migrants on their way home from Aurangabad were in the hope to catch the train in Madhya Pradesh but died on the way by the goods train as it ran over them. Now, who is to be blamed here? Another scenario in which five migrants were killed and 13 others were injured in a truck through which they were traveling reversed on the way.
A large number of people have been reported but still, it is believed that some of the death reports of the migrants might not be covered by the local authorities. This comes under the unplanned scenario of lockdown, which has adversely affected the poor. The question here is if we had the money to save the lives of the needy in the first place then why wasn’t it implemented as before? Why does it take so time to make big decisions only after the poor lose their life?
