JK: CBI arrests three PWD officers
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 3rd December arrested three PWD officers including two engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Jammu and Kashmir for demanding as well as accepting bribes.
The arrested persons were identified as Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, Superintending Engineer, PK Koul, Technical Officer and Sanjay Koul, Junior Engineer. All were posted in the PWD circle of Udhampur district .
An Official said, “The complainant had alleged that the Branch Head, J&K Grameen Bank demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from him through the accused person (agent) for processing and sanctioning a housing loan of Rs 20 Lakh of the complainant’s father .
According to the CBI, a case was opened on a complaint against the accused for allegedly demanding a bribe. It was claimed that during 2017-2018, the complainant’s firm was awarded the tender for the construction of a Medical Sub-Centre in the district Reasi, and that the complainant completed some of the project. It was also claimed that the Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B), Circle Udhampur – Reasi demanded a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh from the complainant in order to process the file related to the project’s technical sanction.
The CBI set a trap and apprehended the Junior Engineer while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the complainant on behalf of the Superintending Engineer, on the orders of Technical officers.
Official said as I quote , “Searches are being conducted at the premises of both the accused at Kathua (J&K).”
The Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B), and Technical Officer were later apprehended. Searches were carried out at the accused’s offices and residences in Jammu, Udhampur, and Srinagar. All of the arrested suspects appeared before the Court of Special Judge for CBI Cases in Jammu. (ANI)officers.
The arrested person was identified to be Jatinder Kumar and he will be produced before the Special Judge, CBI cases, Jammu.
