IndiGo said on Friday, 23 October, that it has cancelled all flights to and from Riyadh until 31 October, and flights to and from Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah until 27 October, citing what it called the “evolving security situation” in Saudi Arabia. The airline announced the extension in a travel advisory on X, saying it is monitoring developments and working with the authorities, according to ANI and Siasat.
Check Status Before Leaving for the Airport
IndiGo said affected passengers are being notified on the contact details given at the time of booking. It asked travellers to check their flight status on its website before going to the airport. The reports did not say what refund or rescheduling options the airline is offering, so passengers should confirm with IndiGo or their travel agent.
Akasa Air has also extended its suspension of Riyadh and Jeddah flights until 27 October, The Tribune reported. Dates differ by airline and route.
Second Extension in Ten Days
IndiGo first suspended Riyadh flights from 13 October. A report on 16 October put its cancellations to the four Saudi cities at 24 October. Cirium data cited by OneIndia showed 298 of 366 scheduled departures from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport were cancelled or did not operate on 15 October, a disruption rate of 81.4%.
The cancellations follow attacks on Saudi airports. An attack on Dammam’s King Fahd International Airport on the evening of 21 October killed two people, including one Indian national, and injured eight, according to Saudi authorities. The Indian Embassy said two other Indians were injured. Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority said operations at Dammam had resumed. IPB News has covered the Dammam attack and Air India’s earlier Saudi cancellations.
Next Review Falls on 27 October
The Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah cancellations run through 27 October and Riyadh through 31 October. IndiGo has not said whether it will resume flights after those dates, and has said only that it will keep assessing the situation.
