Five-year jail for Lalu Prasad Yadav in Doranda Treasury case

The highly controversial fodder scam had come to light in 1996, pointing out the misappropriation of around Rs.1000 crores from the state exchequers for the purchase of fictitious medicines and fodder for cattle.
Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was the CM during that time, was accused along with 74 others, out of which 24 were acquitted. He has already been convicted in four other cases related to the scam. They pertain to the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore and Rs 33.13 crore from the Chaibasa treasury, Rs 89.27 crore from the Deoghar treasury, and Rs 3.76 crore from the Dumka treasury.
This sentencing invited comments along the political spectrum, with RJD Tejashwi Yadav affirming over challenging the decision in the court. “I will not comment on the court verdict,” he said. “This is not the last judgment.
