Delhi’s food safety department seized more than 322 kg of ghee during festive-season inspections of stores in Vikaspuri and Hastal village in west Delhi, and collected samples from several other shops across the city, according to a release reported by PTI on 23 October. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government “would not tolerate food adulteration or irregularities that pose a risk to public health”. The seizures are not a finding of adulteration: samples have gone for testing and action will follow the lab reports.
What Was Taken From Which Market
In Vikaspuri, officials seized more than 75.50 litres of ghee from two stores and took five ghee samples from different brands, plus five samples of other food items. In Hastal village, 246 kg of ghee was seized from one store and three ghee samples were collected. The department reports the figures in litres and kilograms and did not convert them in its release.
Samples were also taken from stores in Azad Market (sugar-boiled confectionery, over suspected labelling irregularities), Lajpat Nagar (makhana and turmeric powder) and Rithala (two varieties of biscuits, soft candy and sugar-based candy). No quantity was reported seized at these.

Check Labels Before You Buy
Gupta urged shoppers to check the quality and packaging of food products, along with manufacturing and expiry dates. Reports on 24 October added that the government had targeted stores advertising heavy discounts on social media during the festive season.
Lab Reports Decide Next Steps
The department said its findings would be assessed together with laboratory test reports before further action is taken. No date for the results has been announced, and no penalties have been announced so far.
