Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi at 11 AM on Friday, 23 October, and address the gathering, according to a PIB release. The three-day event, running from 23 to 25 October, is organised by Chinmaya Mission to close a year of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of the spiritual movement.
9,000 Participants From India and Abroad
More than 9,000 participants from India and overseas are expected, the release said. The government has not announced any policy item for the event; it is a Prime Minister’s engagement with a religious and educational organisation.
A Year of Gita Programmes
Swami Chinmayananda founded the mission in 1951 to make Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita accessible to ordinary readers. The PIB note lists what the anniversary year included: mass havans at several places, the consecration of the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Temple in Tripura, and “Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam”, in which over 1 lakh people worldwide chanted the 15th chapter of the Gita online.
A project called “Gita Panchamrit” focused on five chosen verses. Fifteen young members of Chinmaya Yuva Kendra travelled more than 40,000 km across India on the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra. Last year the Prime Minister released a Tamil versification of the Bhagavad Gita at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu.
Sammelan Continues Till October 25
The Sammelan runs through Sunday, 25 October. The PIB release gives no further session-wise schedule. Other official events this week are covered in India-Poland Talks: Modi, Tusk Agree on Defence, Space, Nuclear Push and on the Daily Updates page.
