Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will release the Indian Army’s new Land Warfare Doctrine on Friday, 23 October, the last day of the Army Commanders’ Conference that opened in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Defence Ministry said the document will give the force an “overarching framework” to prepare for the changing character of warfare, PTI reported. General Dhiraj Seth, the Chief of the Army Staff, chairs the three-day meeting.

Agenda for the Three Days

The conference is the Army’s apex biannual forum. Its agenda covers the security environment, operational preparedness, capability development and what the ministry called future-ready transformation initiatives. Chief of Defence Staff General N S Raja Subramani, Navy chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and the Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology are among the speakers.

Singh will also unveil the annual United Nations Journal and honour Army personnel who served as UN peacekeepers. General Seth will present awards for Green Military Stations and Aviation Flight Safety.

Drones Changed the Debate After Operation Sindoor

The Tribune reported that the doctrine is a broad framework on how warfare has evolved, particularly since Operation Sindoor in May 2025, when drones played a major role. The ministry calls it a vision document. None of the reports seen by IPB gives the contents of the doctrine itself.

Singh was in Dushanbe earlier this week, where he told the SCO that there can be no justification for terrorism; that speech is covered here. More defence and security stories are in the Daily Updates section.

Release Due When the Conference Ends on Friday

The doctrine is to be released on Friday, when the conference closes. Until the text is out, it is not known how it treats drones, joint operations with the Navy and Air Force, or procurement. The conference is also meant to review ongoing Army initiatives and set policy directions for the coming months.
