The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rain over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday, 20 October, with fairly widespread to widespread rain expected there every day until 25 October, its all-India bulletin said. In Odisha, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely, while the Northeast stays warm and largely dry with no significant weather forecast for the week.

Thunderstorms and Wet Days in the Islands

IMD has forecast isolated thunderstorms with winds of 30–40 kmph over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday, and expects isolated heavy rain to return between 23 and 25 October. Many places in the islands already received rain in the 24 hours to Monday morning. Residents and tourists planning ferry trips should watch local advisories, as heavy showers can disrupt sea and road travel. IMD has issued no fishermen warning for the Bay of Bengal.

Odisha Showers Confined to the South

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has forecast light to moderate rain at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, without any district-level alert. Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum of 33.7°C and a minimum of 23.4°C in its latest report, and humidity remains high. The centre has issued no fishermen warning for the Odisha coast until 22 October. Digha in West Bengal received 20 mm and Puri 10 mm in the 24 hours to early Monday, Down To Earth reported.

Warm Days in Assam and Arunachal

Day temperatures were markedly above normal, by more than 5°C, at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh and isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya, while nights were markedly warmer than usual in parts of Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, IMD said. IMD expects Odisha to turn dry after 22 October, while rain continues over the islands. See IPB’s Weather Updates and the latest on rain in south India.
