Odisha will stay dry in all districts till 26 October, and then coastal districts such as Balasore, Puri, Ganjam and Khordha can expect light to moderate rain from 27 October, according to the IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre. The change follows a low-pressure area that is very likely to form over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around 23 October, Pragativadi reported from the IMD bulletin issued on 22 October.

Yellow Warnings for 26 and 27 October

The IMD has issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h at isolated places on 26 and 27 October. On later days, heavy rain of 64.5 to 115.5 mm is likely at isolated places in Balasore, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri. Bhubaneswar is forecast at about 33°C maximum and 22°C minimum.

Sea Turns Rough From October 25

The IMD’s extended-range outlook shows a high probability of cyclogenesis over the Bay during 23 to 29 October, and the system is expected to become a depression around the morning of 25 October. Seas are forecast to turn very rough over the central Bay from the evening of 25 October, and high to very high on 26 to 28 October. Gale winds of 70 to 80 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h, are likely over the west-central Bay from 26 October.

Fishermen are advised to avoid the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay from the evening of 23 October to 25 October, and the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay from 26 to 28 October. The IMD bulletin reported by Pragativadi did not name a cyclone or a landfall point.

Track Update Due in the Next Bulletins

Where the system moves after it becomes a depression is not yet clear, and OdishaTV noted earlier that the IMD had not forecast a cyclonic storm. Earlier IPB coverage is at IMD Sees Bay of Bengal Low by October 23, and all forecasts are collected under Weather Updates.
