Woman unaware of DeMo has 30000 in old currency

Thatha is 80 years old woman in Kottayi, Palakkad district, Kerala. She has Rs 30,000 in her savings. She is totally unaware of the 2016 banknote demonetization. On July 10, some children were playing in a playground noticed a few currency notes flying around and saw Thatha trying to dry them.

Children informed the police and they and few local politicians helped. The currency notes were dried, counted, and safely deposited in the bank. Around Rs 1.5 lakh was deposited. The majority were five- and ten-rupee notes and the demonetised currencies were more than Rs 30,000.

According to the police, Thatha has been living in a room in her house and doesn’t have any contact with the relatives who live in the same house. After when she saw a snake in the room, she removed all her stuff and they got wet in the rain.
