Transforming Rural India by creating 10000 FPOs

A Farmer Producer Organization or FPOs are a group of farmers who are the registered body with the producers as shareholders in the organization.
In the recent announcement Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar has said that 10000 new FPOs will be created. Undoubtedly this will benefit the small and marginal farmers.
The approach followed is “One District- One Crop”. It will help the farmers in increasing value addition, marketing, and exports. Small, marginal, and landless farmers will also get technological inputs. They will also get finance, better markets, and prices for their crops.
It was told by him that 86% of the farmers are small, marginal, and landless. Such a scheme would empower not only farmers but also the rural Indian economy.
The minimum number of people required to create FPOs were set at 300 in plains and 100 in North-East and hilly areas. All FPOs will be provided with professional support and handholding for 5 years. 15% of the FPOs will be constituted in aspirational districts. These districts are meat to reduce the regional inequalities.
With this approach, the government will also boost natural and organic farming addressing the issues of climate change. This central scheme has a total budget of Rs 6865 crores. Other impacts of this scheme are believed to be improved agriculture and horticulture produce. This will increase employment opportunities, and reduction in the cost of production and marketing.
This is a great opportunity for fulfilling the dream of doubling the farmer’s income as envisaged by PM Narendra Modi! This scheme will be driven by NABARD, NCBC, and SFAC.
With proper organization, planning, and execution of this scheme awaits the prosperity of farmers and in turn rural India.
