Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will make an official visit to India from October 21 to 23 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Monday, October 19. The trip will take him to New Delhi and Bengaluru, in a week that also brings the UAE Foreign Minister and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to India.
Talks With Modi in New Delhi on October 22
Tusk will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi on October 22, covering relations between the two countries as well as regional and global issues. According to IANS, the agenda includes trade and investment, defence, emerging technologies, renewable energy, education, culture and people-to-people ties.
The MEA said the visit “will provide the opportunity to further strengthen the India-Poland Strategic Partnership”. It added that the visit would also help deepen the strategic partnership between India and the European Union.
Business Delegation and a Stop in Bengaluru
Tusk will be accompanied by Poland’s Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański and a large business delegation. An India-Poland Business Forum will be held in New Delhi on October 22.
On October 23, he will travel to Bengaluru to meet business representatives from the IT and space sectors, followed by a second India-Poland Business Forum in the city.
Building on Modi’s 2024 Warsaw Visit
India and Poland raised their relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024, when the two sides also agreed a Joint Action Plan for 2024–28.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reviewed that plan with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in Warsaw on September 4. This will be Tusk’s second visit to India as Polish Prime Minister; his first was in 2010, during his earlier term in office.
The Delhi talks on October 22 are the centrepiece of the three-day trip, with the Bengaluru stop focused on technology and space businesses. More on India’s foreign relations is in IPB News’s Daily Updates.
