Mumbai and Thane have stayed hot and humid this weekend after an unusual October hot spell, with daytime temperatures between 33°C and 35°C, The Week reported. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain over the Konkan region in the coming days, though its extended outlook does not show any major rain system for the city.

Santacruz Touched 38°C Earlier in the Week

The Santacruz observatory recorded 38°C on October 13, 4.3°C above normal, while Colaba reached 36.4°C, the Free Press Journal reported. IMD had issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions in Konkan. Experts quoted in reports linked the heat to the early withdrawal of the monsoon and a shift to easterly winds, which stop cooler sea breezes from reaching the city.

Outdoor workers, commuters and elderly people are advised to drink plenty of water and avoid long exposure to the afternoon sun.

Thunderstorms Over Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh

IMD’s all-India bulletin issued on Sunday night forecast thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh. Farmers harvesting kharif crops may want to keep cut produce covered.

Showers Only in South Gujarat

IMD’s Ahmedabad centre has forecast dry weather across most of Gujarat, including Saurashtra and Kutch. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in Navsari, Valsad, Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli on October 19 and 20.

IMD expects only partial relief for Mumbai from passing showers, with humid conditions likely to continue into next week. More in IPB’s Weather Updates and Daily Updates.
