India elected unopposed as a non-permanent number of UN Council

Bagging 184 votes out of the 193-member General Assembly, India got elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Council Assembly for a term of 2 years. Apart from India, Ireland, Mexico and Norway also won the Security Council election.
The country has been elected for the Council earlier for the years 1950-1951, 1967-1968, 1972-1973, 1977-1978, 1984-1985, 1991-1992, and most recently in 2011-2012.
It is a victory as India was the sole candidate from the Aisa-Pacific group, vying for the one seat. Its candidature was endorsed by the 55 member Asia group, including China and Pakistan during the month of June last year.
