ICICI Bank Q2 Profit Rises 20% to Rs 14,843 Crore on Loan Growth
ICICI Bank on Saturday reported a standalone net profit of Rs 14,843 crore for the July–September quarter of 2026-27, up 20.1% from Rs 12,359 crore a year earlier. The Mumbai-based private lender said the rise was supported by strong loan growth and lower provisions for bad loans, according to its results filed with the stock exchanges.
What The Numbers Show
Net interest income, the difference between what the bank earns on loans and pays on deposits, rose 17.7% to Rs 25,339 crore. Provisions fell to Rs 851 crore from Rs 914 crore a year ago and Rs 1,260 crore in the June quarter. Consolidated net profit, which includes subsidiaries, rose about 22.3% to Rs 16,333 crore.
The net interest margin, however, narrowed to 4.18% from 4.30% a year earlier and 4.36% in the previous quarter, which means each rupee lent is earning slightly less. The board also approved an application to the Reserve Bank of India for Pradeep Kumar Sinha to continue as non-executive part-time chairperson from July 2027 to February 2029.
Loans, Deposits And Bad Loans
Total advances stood at about Rs 18.32 lakh crore on September 30, up 30% from a year earlier, or 24.1% if loans linked to FCNR(B) deposits under a concessional swap scheme are excluded. Deposits rose 27.1% to about Rs 20.50 lakh crore, or 17% excluding those swap-linked deposits.
Asset quality improved. The gross non-performing asset ratio fell to 1.20% from 1.58% a year earlier, and the net NPA ratio eased to 0.30% from 0.39%. The capital adequacy ratio was 16.68%, well above the regulatory minimum.
Why It Matters For Ordinary Customers
Strong deposit growth and low bad loans suggest the bank has room to keep lending to home buyers, small businesses and car borrowers during the festival season. Rival HDFC Bank has also reported a 4.7% rise in quarterly profit, and the two sets of results give a fuller picture of how large private lenders are faring.
The narrower margin is worth watching for savers and borrowers alike. When margins are under pressure, banks often review what they pay on fixed deposits and what they charge on loans, so customers may see changes in rates over the coming months.
Shares of ICICI Bank closed at Rs 1,397 on Friday, before the results were announced. Market reaction will be visible when trading resumes on Monday. More business updates are available in our Daily Updates section.
