Voters Deleted in SIR Can Apply Again Through Form 6: Delhi HC

Voters whose names were removed from the electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) because they could not submit enumeration forms can apply to be included again by filling Form 6, the Delhi High Court has said. A bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Aditi Choudhary closed a petition by two voters who had moved house and missed the enumeration, saying they may fill Form 6 “which shall be processed in accordance with law”, Business Standard and The Federal reported.
The petitioners wanted deleted voters to be restored through Form 8, used to correct or shift existing entries, rather than applying afresh. The Election Commission told the court that Form 6 under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 was the correct route and that the Electoral Registration Officer would help them. The court said the petitioners’ fear that filling Form 6, which asks applicants to declare first-time inclusion, would expose them to a charge of false declaration was “misplaced”.
What Voters Should Do
Anyone whose name is missing from the revised roll should check the list, then file Form 6 online through the Election Commission’s voter portal or with the local Booth Level Officer, along with proof of address and age. More short reads in IPB’s Quick Reads.
