The manufacturing facilities for vaccines by Bharat Biotech & BE saw recent visits by sixty-plus envoys to Hyderabad. The city is set to become a global hub for the Covid-19 vaccination drive starting next year. Hyderabad based manufacturing companies are forcing through time to find out an antidote amidst the pandemic still swinging by in full force.

The process of curating a Covid-19 vaccine is led by Bharat Biotech, Biological E Ltd, and Aurobindo Pharma at varied stages, whereas the onus of manufacturing is at the hands of Dr. Reddy’s & Hetero. The International Airport is also gearing up the processes of developing cold-chain infrastructure for transportation of the Covid-19 vaccine to aid in the process of Covid-19 vaccination.

The Hyderabad Air Cargo of GMR is in the final process of finalizing the deal with multiple stakeholders for Covid-19 vaccine import & exports.

However, with India plummeting sky-rocketing figures of 77 million cases and approximately 2 million deaths there are concerns of export of Covid-19 vaccines once the Covid-19 vaccination drive starts. The director-general of Pharmexcil, Udaya Bhaskar was quick to retort that no policing is in place for exporting Covid-19 vaccines to other countries. This is till the vaccination drive can fulfill the necessitated domestic demand.

Most of the manufacturers are having foreign tie-ups barring Bharat Biotech and there is still a cloud over the detailing of those agreements. The allocation of vaccines & the prescribed doses is to be directed by the Centre and the manufacturer or producer has no say.
