AIIMS Bhubaneswar Opens Portable Breast Self-Examination Booth
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar has opened a portable breast self-examination booth, which the institute describes as the first of its kind in India. The booth was inaugurated by Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas in the Department of Medical Oncology as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, officials said on Friday.
How The Booth Helps
The booth offers women a private space to learn the steps of self-examination from instructions displayed on its walls. The department plans to set up a permanent booth in the near future, Odisharay reported.
Dr Biswas said “early detection plays a crucial role in improving breast cancer outcomes” and urged women to watch for unusual changes and consult a doctor promptly. Dr Sourav Kumar Mishra of the oncology department said the department has treated about 1,000 breast cancer patients in four years, with around 100 visiting each month, and voiced concern that many arrive at an advanced stage.
