The Centre and the Madhya Pradesh government will hold a Fisheries Investors and Exporters Conclave at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre in Bhopal on Friday, 23 October, to bring private investment into inland fisheries, according to a Press Information Bureau release. The state Fisheries Department and the Department of Fisheries under the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying are organising it. Investors, exporters, startups, processors and more than 1,000 fish farmers from the state are expected, with the aim of linking fish production to cold storage, processing and export markets.
Export Guidelines and Cage Units for Madhya Pradesh
The conclave will release the Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Investment and Export Guidelines 2026. They cover hatcheries, feed, cage and reservoir fisheries, aquatic animal health, processing, cold chains, logistics and markets. A set of standard operating procedures on the export potential of inland states will also be released.
Integrated Cage Culture Units will be inaugurated virtually. Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will hand over administrative approval for the Integrated Development of Reservoirs and Amrit Sarovars in Madhya Pradesh.
Three-Quarters of India’s Fish Come From Inland Waters
India produced 197.75 lakh tonnes of fish in 2024–25, of which 151.60 lakh tonnes, about three-fourths, came from inland fisheries, the release said. Seafood exports in 2025–26 were worth ₹73,890 crore. Madhya Pradesh has nearly 4.50 lakh hectares of water area and has been notified by the Centre as a Reservoir Fisheries Cluster.
The organisers say the aim is to move from a production-focused approach to an “integrated value-chain model”, so that fishers and fish farmers get better market access and returns.
Chief Minister and Union Ministers on the Programme
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Minister of State S. P. Singh Baghel and state Fisheries Minister Narayan Singh Pawar are listed among the guests. Discussions will cover enterprise development, access to finance, market linkages and collaboration.
The release does not give investment figures or say whether any agreements will be signed. Those details will be known after the event on 23 October. More official announcements are collected in our Daily Updates section.
