A passenger bus travelling from Pachiound to Ramnagar skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Gulli Gala in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, on the morning of Wednesday, 21 October, killing two people, a woman and a young girl, and injuring more than a dozen others, according to PTI and local reports. Police have taken cognisance and rescue work was under way when the reports were filed. The cause has not been stated.
Injured Taken to Ramnagar and Udhampur Hospitals
Local reports gave differing injury counts, from 15 to 17, so the exact figure is not yet confirmed. PTI said villagers shifted injured passengers to the Public Health Centre in Basantgarh and that six were in critical condition and referred to the district hospital in Udhampur. Kashmir Life reported that the injured were taken to the Sub-District Hospital in Ramnagar and named one of the dead as five-year-old Takshika, daughter of Rakesh Kumar of Chatrari; Daily Excelsior put the girl’s age at four. The second victim, a woman, had not been identified in the reports.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on X that 10 injured had reached the hospital, three of whom were referred to GMC Udhampur, with more ambulances on the way. He said he had spoken to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Ananth Dwivedi and promised all necessary help.
Road Condition Raised After the Crash
Mr Singh said he had raised construction of the Ramnagar-Basantgarh road with Border Roads Organisation officials in Delhi. BJP MLA Sunil Bhardwaj, who visited the hospital, spoke about the poor state of the road and asked for it to be upgraded and for local health services to be strengthened, PTI reported. Neither statement links the crash to the road; police have not given a cause.
The bus carried registration number JK02AL-3477. The police findings, an official casualty list and any compensation announcement are still awaited. More in Daily Updates.
